Mallard Creek High School prepares students to succeed in a global society through a quality education.
Faculty & Staff
Students at Mallard Creek High School are served by a highly motivated and dedicated faculty and staff. Just over half of the faculty has earned a master's or doctorate degree and 10% of the faculty has earned National Board Certification.

Mallard Creek is a three-story, pre-cast concrete building, surrounding a large central courtyard. The school is located near the I-485 belt loop and the Highland Creek community. The concrete is colored in certain exterior areas to represent the school's colors: Navy Blue, Cardinal Red, and Vegas Gold.
At over 351,000 square feet (32,600 m2), it is one of the largest single-school buildings in the region. The school has a football stadium (with a turf field), a baseball-softball complex, and a large gymnasium, as well as an adjoining practice gymnasium, tennis courts, and soccer fields.
School Demographics
Our student body of over 2,120 students is comprised of 69% African-American, 9% White, 3% Multi-Racial, and 5% Asian. Ethnically, 14% of our students are Hispanic. Our student body represents a wide range of backgrounds from socio-economic, religious, and political viewpoints.
Academics
In our focus to produce graduates that are college and career ready, Mallard Creek High School offers a wide-range of rigorous and relevant courses in all subject areas. Students who wish to pursue a future in science, math, the humanities, visual arts, performing arts, engineering or business have several options to choose from when registering for courses, including over 100 courses offered through our NC Virtual Public School lab and the NC College and Career Promise program. Mallard Creek offers a compliment of services for students with disabilities, special needs and are English language learners. In 2013, MCHS welcomed a program for students with Autism, which continues to make a profoundly positive impact on our faculty, staff and student body. In 2017, MCHS welcomed the AP Capstone program, which includes AP Seminar and AP Research classes. In addition:
- 19% of students are enrolled in Advanced Placement courses
- The 2023-2024 graduation rate was over 86%, higher than the state and district average.
- The Class of 2024 earned over $6 million in scholarships
- Extended Day opportunities are available for students needing extra support
Clubs & Extracurriculars
Countless clubs and activities at Mallard Creek High School provide students with the opportunity to learn through collaboration, service and competition. Students are encouraged to join clubs, attend school events and complete community service hours through our PRIDE Incentive Program by rewarding students for each level of participation. The VEX Robotics Team has won 2 State Championships.

Athletics
Mallard Creek High School offers a full range of competitive athletics for both boys and girls through tennis, golf, swimming, track & field, football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, wrestling, cross-country, E-sports, cheerleading, and flag football. Mallard Creek is a division 4A school and a part of the Queen City 3A/4A Conference.
Although Mallard Creek is a relatively new school, our athletic programs have quickly made a name for themselves at both the conference and state levels. Our students have earned numerous titles in both team and individual sports.
The varsity football team captured the 4AA State Championship three years in a row — 2013, 2014, and 2015. In May 2015, the Men’s Track & Field team secured its first 4A State Championship, and in the winter of 2018, the Cheerleading team claimed its first NCHSAA 4A State Championship.
Most recently, the Men’s Track & Field team achieved remarkable success, winning the 2024 NCHSAA 4A Outdoor, 2025 NCHSAA 4A Indoor, and 2025 NCHSAA 4A Outdoor State Championships. Additionally, in 2025, the Women’s Track & Field team earned a strong 2nd place finish at the Outdoor State Championship.
